PE and Sport

PE, the subject is the place where all children and young people have the opportunity to learn about their bodies and human movement in a way that can contribute to finding meaning and expressing their own particular identity. We offer a way of developing knowledge of the world and understanding and relating to the world which is embodied, experiential and educative. This is what makes it unique, valuable and therefore powerful as no other subject has this as their central purpose. - PE, Youth Sport and Physical Activity, 2023
Core PE Curriculum intent:
Our Core PE curriculum is broad, balanced, and ambitious, designed to provide all students with the opportunity to engage in a wide variety of sports while developing transferable skills applicable to both physical activities and wider life. It is coherently planned and sequenced to ensure students progressively build on their fundamental skills, tactical understanding, and knowledge of roles within sports, fostering a deep appreciation for healthy, active lifestyles. Adaptations and scaffolding are integral to our approach, ensuring accessibility for students with special educational needs and/or disabilities, enabling every student to experience success. By linking learning to both local and national contexts, we connect students to community opportunities, national sporting initiatives, and the wider importance of sport in society. Students explore performance analysis, organisational independence, and resilience, developing not only physical competence but also key life skills such as decision-making, perseverance, and teamwork. Our aim is to instill a lifelong passion for sport and the confidence to thrive in any setting.

These skills are applied and refined across a variety of sports and physical activities, enabling students to demonstrate increasing fluency, coordination, and confidence in their performances.

- Students will work to improve their overall performance through guided practice, including honing physical skills, improving fitness levels, and applying techniques to maximise effectiveness in various sports.
- Students will learn to critically assess their own and others’ performances, identifying key strengths to build upon and areas for improvement. They will develop the skills to set realistic goals and use targeted strategies to enhance their capabilities.
- Students will have opportunities to take on leadership roles, such as leading warm ups, captaining teams, officiating games, and organising small-group activities.
